Common support questions and known issues
Current release: Arius 2022a, December 2022
Prerequisites: None. This release is a complete system.
December 2022 update: The December release of 2022a is an update to a prior build of this same version. We fixed an issue wherein Arius Enterprise users were not able to check projects back into the database after they or another user has modified the user defined object library. We also fixed an issue when opening a user-defined resizable row array in Arius Enterprise if the table contained a formula and the setting for "Enable formula-driven payment pattern" was checked. See Installation Notes for more information.
New feature highlights for Arius version 2022a
The ability to easily select and highlight a diagonal on an exhibit (for example, to select all development factors for a specific diagonal/calendar period)
Search capabilities within the Object Library, so you can more easily find a specific table anywhere in the Library
An expanded set of system tables to help with IFRS 17 reporting
An enhanced “Diagonal” formula function now takes a scalar object as an additional parameter, with that scalar specifying the number of the diagonal that the function should retrieve (rather than having to specify the diagonal number directly in the user-defined formula)
Similar to Diagonal, an enhanced “GetPriorSDF” formula function takes a scalar object as an additional parameter specifying the number of the prior period from which to retrieve selected factors
New feature highlights for Arius Enterprise version 2022a
The ability to extract the weights vectors from Comparison of Ultimates reports or Formula Driven Assumptions into extract tables for use in additional reporting external to Arius
New feature highlights for Triangles on Demand version 2022a
Many new internal checks to assure that users cannot perform certain activities with a ToD database while other activities are taking place in the background. Examples include preventing users from adding or modifying records in a database while large deletions are taking place in that same database, and preventing users from deleting data sets or working with a database while its performance level is being scaled up or down.
Prior release: Arius 2021b, October 2021
Prerequisites: None. This release is a complete system.
New feature highlights for Arius version 2021b
Ability to share exhibit statistics, exhibit defaults, and data defaults among different Arius projects for easier setup and more consistent analysis
Ability to change the order in which reserving segments appear in reports and other parts of your analysis
Ability to quickly identify all of the tables throughout a project file that are dependent on a selected table, as well as the additional ability to export a listing of all table dependencies
Ability to retrieve a specified column from any triangle array when building a formula for a user defined column, method, or report
New system tables to support reporting capabilities using a new Interest Rate Net of Margin input
Ability to control the display of the Arius system message box
New feature highlights for Arius Enterprise
Ability to delete any number of CSV upload files at one time, rather than selecting and deleting each one separately
Ability to load exhibit options, exhibit defaults, and data defaults with a script command to easily share these capabilities among multiple projects in a batch
Ability to include dimensions from the right extract or supporting table into the final reporting table when creating or editing a report table
Enhancements to a number of security and role definitions, including revised permissions over the following functions: Delete Export to APJ, Delete Export to PDF, Download APJ, Download PDF, Download Extract/Reporting Tables, and Manage Performance
A new API function to retrieve a list of all users and their respective assigned roles within the system
A number of internal enhancements to provide additional control over deleting extract or reporting tables or over editing extract or reporting table definitions while those tables are being updated by other users
New feature highlights for Triangles on Demand
Ability to delete any number of CSV upload files at one time, rather than selecting and deleting each one separately
New controls to prevent users from deleting data in a ToD database while data loads are underway; also vice versa, preventing data loads while deleting of data is in progress
Access to the system’s log of all activities related to the data load process
Notes:
- This software will install and run only after you have accepted the Milliman License Agreement.
- You may need administrator privileges on your computer in order to install Claim Variability Benchmarks.
- A limited version is available at no charge during the installation process.
Current release: CVB 2.1, November 2021
Prerequisites: None. This release is a complete system.
New feature highlights for CVB version 2.1
Benchmark loss development patterns (cvbLDFPatterns) – New benchmarks for calendar year 2019 were added and all years combined were updated to include 2019 data. In addition, new benchmarks for all lines of business combined are now included.
Benchmark frequency patterns (cvbFreqPatterns) – For the 11 frequency ratio arrays, calendar year 2019 was added. In addition, new benchmarks for all years combined and all lines of business combined are now included.
Benchmark severity patterns (cvbSevPatterns) – For the 6 severity ratio arrays, calendar year 2019 was added. In addition, new benchmarks for all years combined and all lines of business combined are now included.
Benchmark correlation between LOBs (cvbCorrelation) – For all correlation benchmarks, new benchmarks for calendar year 2019 were added and all years combined were updated to include 2019 data.
Prior release: CVB 2.0, November 2020
Prerequisites: None. This release is a complete system.
New feature highlights for CVB version 2.0
Benchmark loss development patterns (cvbLDFPatterns) – This function has been redesigned to include means and standard deviations instead of percentiles. In addition, 7 new data sets from Schedule P are now included (i.e., Paid, Incurred, Reported, Closed, CWP, CWOP, Incurred + IBNR).
Benchmark frequency patterns (cvbFreqPatterns) – This new function leverages all the Schedule P data to calculate 11 different frequency ratios for 10 x 11 arrays of all accident years by calendar year.
Benchmark severity patterns (cvbSevPatterns) – This new function leverages all of Schedule P data to calculate 6 severity ratios for 10 x 11 arrays of all accident years by calendar year.
Benchmark Unpaid distributions using Mack (cvbMackUnpaid) – This new function is like the cvbUnpaid function, except that it is based on the Mack and Merz-Wuthrich models instead of the ODP Bootstrap models and does NOT include any adjustment for model error to make it easier to calibrate the benchmarks to non-US data.
Mack means and Std Dev (cvbMackCalc) – This new function will estimate the Mack means and standard deviations for any size development triangle, including 8 different options to calibrate the function to your needs.
1-year time horizon means and Std Dev (cvbMerzWuthrichCalc) – This new function will estimate the Merz-Wuthrich 1-year time horizon means and standard deviations for any size development triangle, including 9 different options to calibrate the function to your needs.
Benchmark correlation between LOBs (cvbCorrelation) – This function has been expanded to include more data and new weighted averages based on premiums and premiums times one minus the P-Value.
